If you are in that situation, here are some blind dating tips to ensure you have a successful and sweat-free experience.
First of all, keep in mind you have no idea what this person is really like. Don’t worry about it being complete disaster and don’t get you expectations too high. Perhaps you have already spoken on the phone. If you do, keep the phone conversation fairly brief. Get to know each other a bit, set up a good date time and then meet up. If you spend hours talking to one another you may build up false expectations of the person and only be disappointed when you meet in person. You should go into blind date completely as its name suggests – blind – and you won’t be disappointed because you had no idea what to expect to begin with.
It’s hard for some people to think of a good date location to begin with, and even more difficult when it’s a blind date. Day-dates and lunch is usually a good idea. It allows you to dress less casually and has less pressure than an evening date. Maybe just go for drinks or a coffee. This also allows you to cut things shorter if you don’t exactly hit it off. If you know immediately things won’t work out and your plan is to go to a movie, you have already committed yourself to three hours with this person. Daytime dates are definitely ideal for a blind date also if things are going well. If you have indeed met someone you are totally affectionate for, you can stretch the date out into the evening if you both wish to spend more time together.
Lastly, go into the date with a clean slate. This person could be the love of your life or a complete drag. Don’t imagine your surprise date as being your ultimate fantasy because chances are you will be disappointed.
