Age is just a number. You’re only as old as you feel. These are expressions that get used a lot today, with aspects of truth behind them. Many women are attracted to older men, and visa versa, and sometimes age truly doesn’t matter when dating someone you’re attracted to. There are some downsides in age difference however when asking the question, does age make a difference in Dating?
Some people just seem like a good fit regardless of age. Women often act more mature than men their own age and find more in common with older men. When two people enjoy the same activities and hobbies, they are naturally drawn together, regardless of age. In a relationship between an older and a younger person, they can share a teach and learn relationship that brings the two together. It has never been uncommon for an older man to date and marry a woman ten or twenty years younger than him, and nowadays you often see younger men dating older women. As society changes and age difference becomes more accepted, the trends are always changing.
There can be complications, however, when dating someone with a drastic age difference from you. As people grow older, their views on life change and their emotional needs change. Someone reaching the age of 50 may be faced with sudden mid-life crisis and need more emotional support than ever. If a younger person in their twenty’s is not ready to deal with such emotional change, the person could be in for more than they’re ready for at a young age. You must be prepared for such changes as someone ages ahead of you.
Another thing you must take into consideration when in a relationship with an older person is the long term goals you both share. An older man or woman may not wish to have kids at their point in life, whereas a younger person with no children may still wish to have kids. Problems like this may not arise early in dating, but may occur several months or a year into a serious relationship when long-term goals and the idea of creating a family together starts being discussed. And when the two are so emotionally connected after time, coping with the fact you both want different things out of life can be hard to deal with. Perhaps topics such as children and long-term goals should be discussed early on in a relationship.
Another complication, and something people often don’t like to think about, is death. If you become seriously involved with someone twenty years older, be prepared that this person may likely die twenty years before you. If you are fully prepared to venture into a life with an older mate, these are things you must think about no matter how difficult the thought may be.
