Helpful Single Parent Dating Tips
Being a single parent is hard enough, but trying to get back into the dating game with children can be a task unto itself. Not only is it hard to find a date, but then you need to find the free time, find a babysitter, and finally find a steady man or woman who enjoys the fact you have children.
Another thing single parents often have to deal with is other people intruding on their personal lives. Often single parents have close relatives or friends who help them with parenting duties, and these people can interfere with your dating life and ignore the fact that people need social lives as well. Single parents need to often times be independent and not always listen to people who shun the fact that you are dating while parenting at the same time. Also, single parents often have the tendency to feel guilty when they are out on a date. They start to think that they’re being selfish by neglecting their children at home. Remember, you are a person with needs as well and finding someone to spend the rest of your life with is just important to you as it is for your kids.
Sometimes single parents, especially women, have trouble finding someone who loves the fact that they already have kids. For a lot of people the idea of dating someone with children can be overwhelming. Depending on how steadily you’ve been dating the person, ease him or her into your children’s life. Don’t give the person parenting roles until the time is right. No matter how excited you may be to have your new love involved in your life, overwhelming them can scare them off. This is why sometimes it is best for single parents to date other single parents because you both already have something in common and already know what having kids is like. Unfortunately, this limits yourself to a whole other world of great men and women who do not yet have children.
For the sake of the children, it is also not a good idea to introduce them to your dates too early. Depending on their age, they may not be too accepting or aware of why you are bringing a new parental figure home – especially if you are dating new people frequently. They could become confused as to why mommy is bringing home a new daddy every week, or visa versa. Just like you need to ease your date into your children’s life, you also need to ease your children into his or her life. It can be a balancing act, but with these single parent dating tips it doesn’t have to be as complicated as it seems.
