Tips On Dating Conversation

When on a first or early date with a man or woman, there are several conversation do’s and don’t’s when at the dinner table or taking a walk in the park. Here are some tips on dating conversation.

When first meeting with your date, you can’t go wrong with a laid-back and pleasant “Hi” or “How are you?” Don’t be too overwhelming because you can give the impression that you are trying too hard. If you approach your first date with outstretched arms and a big, long embrace you could scare the person off. At the same time, if you don’t show that you care enough, you can give the impression of being unfriendly or socially awkward. Don’t think too much about it. It’s a first date, just start off slowly and go with the flow.

There are two types of people: introverts and extroverts. Being too much of one or the other can have bad results. Introverts are often shy and have a hard time talking with new people, especially someone they’re attracted to. If you can’t think of something to say, your date will feel awkward and you will come across as having a boring personality. Start off slowly. Compliment your date on something he or she is wearing. If the person is attracted to you enough to go on a date, he or she obviously got dressed to impress you. Simply telling the person they look nice or complimenting a piece of their clothing or accessory is a nice starting point. Compliments go a long way and your date will appreciate you picked up on something they obviously wore for you. Introverts often need to focus on speaking clearly and loudly and making eye contact. Insecurity, especially in men, can be a big turnoff.

Being too much of an extrovert can be overwhelming to a dater. They often talk so much the other person gets tired of trying to get their word in and eventually just zones out. People like to be listened to, and extroverts often talk so much the other person can feel unimportant. Listening is just as important as talking to connect with someone. Also, because extroverts talk so much they can make the mistake of revealing too much information about themselves too early. Telling your first date every detail about your life leaves no level of mystery which can often be an attractive quality. If you talk too much, you give off the impression of trying too hard. Relax, take things slow, and go with the flow of the conversation.

Probably the most important thing to keep in mind with dating conversation is to stay positive. Don’t talk about depressing things and don’t complain about something that’s going wrong. Instead of complaining because the waiter is taking too long with your meal, or because you’re stuck in traffic, use the time to get to know your date better. Make a joke about the situation to ease the tension. Your date will appreciate your company and see you as someone who can make the most out of any situation.
